I was on a live training with my mentor, Val Smyth. a couple of days ago. He told us all about using Skype’s free calling software to connect effectively with people all over the world. When I jumped on today I got a message from someone that I had yet to connect with. The conversation started out general and lead me down a road that was such a blessing.
The message was from a soldier in the U.S. Army that is stationed in Afghanistan. We talked about a lot of things and then it hit me. I used Web 2.0 to connect with her on Skype, from there she was able to feel a piece of home again. Checking out my Blogs, Myspace, Youtube, and everything. I even shared with her some of the awesome tools that I got free from my Mentors in Motion Subscription that will help her to keep in touch with her friends and family back home.
I was able to pray for her, we joked a little, and most of all, she helped me to reevaluate the things that I’d been taking for granted. She told me how, in that country, any natives who even considered Christianity were put to death. She also told me how she and her unit gave bags of rice to the natives earlier that day and they wanted to kiss their feet in appreciation.
Simply stated, this web 2.0 stuff goes far beyond a online business and can really be a blessing to those that you touch. Let’s stop taking our freedoms and our resources for granted.
